Receiving IV Sedation for Dental Procedures

IV sedation delivers medication directly into your bloodstream, producing a deep state of relaxation almost immediately. You may feel like you are in a dream state.

This type of sedation is most commonly used for complex procedures, longer appointments, or patients with severe dental anxiety. Dr. Bennett is Moderate IV Sedation Certified, one of a small number of dentists in the area qualified to administer this level of sedation in a dental setting.

Many patients have little to no memory of the procedure afterward. It is a completely safe and proven solution for patients who have previously been unable to tolerate dental treatment.

Additional Dental Anesthesia Options

Overcome your fear of dentistry with compassionate, judgment-free dental care at Arvada Dental Center. Our sedation options are tailored to your anxiety level.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation involves taking a prescribed pill before your appointment. It produces a moderate level of relaxation and is a good fit for patients with mild to moderate anxiety. You will be awake but calm and may feel drowsy throughout the visit.

Nitrous Oxide

Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is inhaled through a small mask placed over your nose. It takes effect quickly, wears off almost immediately after the mask is removed, and allows most patients to drive themselves home after their appointment. A gentle option for mild anxiety.

FAQs

Have questions about sedation dentistry in Arvada, Colorado? Here are answers to our most common patient questions.
Is IV sedation safe in Arvada, Colorado?
  • Yes. IV sedation is administered by Dr. Bennett, who is Moderate IV Sedation Certified. Your vitals are monitored throughout the entire procedure. It has a long and well-established safety record when performed by a qualified provider.

Will I be unconscious during IV sedation?
  • No. IV sedation produces a deep state of relaxation but you remain conscious and able to respond if needed. Most patients have little to no memory of the procedure afterward, but it is not the same as general anesthesia.

How long does IV sedation take to wear off?
  • Most patients feel back to normal within a few hours. You will need a driver to take you home after your appointment. We recommend resting for the remainder of the day.

Who is a good candidate for IV sedation in Arvada, Colorado?
  • IV sedation is ideal for patients with moderate to severe dental anxiety, patients undergoing lengthy or complex procedures, and patients who have previously been unable to complete treatment due to fear or discomfort. We assess each patient individually at the consultation.

Does insurance cover IV sedation in Arvada, Colorado?
  • Coverage varies by plan. Some insurance plans cover sedation when it is deemed medically necessary. Our team will review your benefits before your appointment and help you understand your out-of-pocket costs. Financing is available through CareCredit, Cherry, Sunbit, and others.

What is the difference between oral sedation and IV sedation?
  • Oral sedation involves taking a pill before your appointment and produces a moderate level of relaxation. IV sedation is administered through a vein and produces a deeper, faster-acting state of calm. IV sedation also allows us to adjust the dosage in real time throughout the procedure.

Can I eat before my sedation appointment in Arvada, Colorado?
  • For IV sedation, you will be asked to avoid food and drink for a certain number of hours before your appointment. We provide specific pre-appointment instructions when you schedule. Following these instructions is important for your safety.
