Do-It-Yourself products are becoming increasingly common. Did you know there are several ways to make your own toothpaste? While DIY toothpaste isn’t for everyone, making your own toothpaste allows you to use organic products as well as save some money.
Outlined below are a few ways that you can make your own paste, while still keeping your teeth and gums healthy and clean.
Charcoal: Charcoal may seem dirty, but it actually can help to whiten your teeth! Mix 1 teaspoon activated charcoal, ¼ cup baking soda, 1 teaspoon sea salt, 1 teaspoon coconut oil, and a few drops of mint extract. These all-natural products work just as well as your favorite toothpaste brand.
Baking soda: Baking soda is also known for it’s whitening abilities. It also can be good for your stomach, so no need to worry if you swallow it while brushing. For this recipe, mix 2/3 cup baking soda, 1 teaspoon sea salt, 1 teaspoon mint extract, and water (add until you have your desired consistency).
Coconut oil: Coconut oil is all-powerful; its uses seem unlimited. Unsurprisingly, it is also fantastic for your teeth and gums. Mix ½ cup coconut oil, 2 tablespoons baking soda, and a few drops of mint extract. Mix together and get brushing!
Homemade toothpaste can be a great organic option, though we are not suggesting that standard, store-bought toothpastes are inferior. Whichever toothpaste you choose for your pearly whites, make sure you are brushing twice a day, for two minutes each time.
