Cavity Fillings

What is a cavity?

A cavity is essentially a hole in your tooth caused by tooth decay. Because cavities can get larger over time, it is important to regularly visit your dentist so that any sign of decay can be resolved as quickly as possible, saving you from more costly or invasive procedures later.

What is a filling?

A filling restores a tooth that has been damaged by decay back to its normal function. A filling first involves removing the decayed parts of the tooth, cleaning the area, then filling the cavity with a material such as composite or porcelain.

You may or may not be able to tell if you need a filling, but during your exam, Dr. Bennett, Dr. Arnold or Dr. Woody will examine all your teeth to detect whether or not a cavity is present. X-rays may also be taken to assess the health of your teeth and to determine what treatment, if any, is necessary at that time.
